Crazy Excavator Working Edge Of Cliff! Dangerous Scary Jobs!
Driving just North of Klamath Falls Oregon we came across a bunch of rock dust and debris falling from a cliff. We didn't know what was going on....until we saw a crazy excavator operator working dangerously right on the edge of a cliff about a half mile up from the ground! Needless to say...a SCARY and tough way to earn a living!! ~KJ

One of the first funky towns we hit along the route is Beatty, Nevada. Entering Beatty from the South is a unique experience. You drive for...

On our way up along Route 66 coming from the California desert, heading towards Las Vegas and then to Area 51 in the Nevada desert, we come across some burned out, spooky, creepy and scary abandoned places. Some former homes, former businesses often entire abandoned towns! All mysteriously burned and/or destroyed and decaying.....seemingly left to rot in the scorching desert sun! It's a vast sp...
Semi-Abandoned Spooky Desert Train Station On Route to Area 51 Near Las Vegas Nevada
Переглядів 30 тис.11 років тому
A cool although kind of creepy old semi abandoned train station way out in the California/Nevada desert close to the Nevada border. This is a back route we often take to Las Vegas and our Area 51 adventures. The old abandoned town & buildings of Kelso used to be a regular stop of the Union Pacific Railroad. Closed in the 1960's...the old depot has been restored and set up as a museum...while the...
Abandoned! Creepy Spooky Town & Strange Side Road Close To Area 51- Old Cars & Trucks-Nevada Desert

Spooky, strange unusual town on a remote side road not far past Area 51 way out in the Nevada Desert. Almost ghost town status! Kinda like a spooky Halloween...except all year round! Super interesting mind you. One of the oddest semi-abandoned places we've yet come across in our desert explorations. Kinda like Fallout New Vegas or even Nuketown. A scene straight out of GTA. We sometimes take th...
Awesome Waterfalls Nevada/Idaho Desert - Shoshone Falls
Переглядів 11 тис.11 років тому
We come across some amazing sights on our desert driving travels. Shoshone Falls is located in Twin Falls Idaho, about 50 miles from the Nevada border town of Jackpot. The falls is about 8 miles off the main road, and well worth the side trip. A real neat winding road leads down into the park and has lots of little ponds, springs & smaller waterfalls along the way. The park itself is really qui...
Fast 70 MPH USA Freight Train With Surprise Twist! California/Nevada Dsert

We race against an amazingly fast freight train out in the California-Nevada desert! Although perhaps not a foamer or bona fide rail buff or trainspotter..I DO love a cool train! Heading down from Nevada to California, I turned onto one of my fave partially abandoned, desolate sections of old Route 66 out in the California desert just east of the old town of Amboy. We saw a freight train way in...
Semi Abandoned Town In Nevada Desert - Creepy Buildings, Abandoned Cars & More

Driving between Las Vegas and Reno Nevada on Hwy 95, you come across the strange little semi - abandoned town of Goldfield. I often wonder what people do for a living here because really, there is pretty much nothing around for miles. This spooky town is very close to the infamous and kinda creepy Area 51. Abandoned cars in the streets and yards, abandoned homes, storage containers out in the o...

Strange Creepy Town Near Area 51 - Semi Abandoned Town in Nevada Desert - The REAL Loneliest Road!

I decided to finally take a remote back-road "trick route" I'd always wanted to try bypassing Tonopah on the way up from Las Vegas to Reno, Nevada. Wow, what a strange trip! A little single lane road in the middle of nowhere complete with a bizarre, sort of spooky and creepy (in a way), semi-ghost town! One of the oddest abandoned places we've seen in our years of desert travel. In over 2 hours...
Flash Flood in Nevada Desert!! Scary Driving Through Flooded Roads & Monsoon Rains - USA Travel

Flash flood and monsoon rain encountered driving to Palm Springs California from Las Vegas September (2012) on one of our "back road trick routes". We ran smack into a monster storm. About 20 of us formed a caravan of vehicles led by a California Highways worker. He a...
Awesome Mirage Casino Volcano Show Las Vegas, Nevada-USA Travel

We caught the first volcano eruption show just out front of The Mirage Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. It was July 4th weekend at 9 PM...still a bit of daylight. It's a mining town. They're all either working, or sleeping after a brutal shift at work.

I grew up in Silver Peak in the 1980s... cool to see it again, so thanks for sharing. Took that road every day to high school in Tonopah (~50 miles each way). Silver Peak's population is about half what it was since the gold/silver mine closed and is definitely a very small / tight knit town. Just to clarify, the 'chloride operation' that you mentioned is actually the largest lithium mine in the United States. ua-cam.com/video/KvUE-gtkLEs/v-deo.html

That road was repaved in 2016 and is much smoother now. Alkali is just the hot spring and a dry lake bed. 100 years ago Alkali was a hot spring resort, but all that are left now are the spring itself and an old swimming pool (now filled with fish). You should have stopped there to see the wild horses, donkeys, antelope and feral cattle which drink from the overflow pond. Silver Peak has about 100 residents, most of whom work at Albemarle Corporation, the only operating lithium mine in the United States. The ponds you drove between are the evaporation ponds for lithium, and the road you drove on in that section is made of salt.

Ponds are part of the process for mining Lithium. It's the only Lithium mine in the U.S. During the 1950s my parents established 22 uranium claims north and south of Silver Peak in the Clayton Valley. I was Dad's constant shadow while he prospected. I recommend the book "Silver Peak - Never a Ghost Town" by Victoria Ford. It covers the time frame from the late 1800s to 1940s. Dad 'Bill Graham' and an aunt 'Alta Brown' are mentioned in the book's 1930s narrative. Mom and Dad met in Silver Peak during the 1930s.

There is nothing creepy about Area 51. It is simply a top secret military installation, not too far from the Nevada Test Site where Atomic Tests were conducted. Both places are top secret. The government does not want ordinary citizens to know what's going on there because you might tell someone who would use that information against us. They would rather you believe all the alien flying saucer stories that people make up. There's nothing spooky or creepy about Goldfield. It's just an old town trying to stay alive. If you want a spooky, creepy town, then go to Chicago.
